Healthy Eating Policy

I will provide a balanced diet, consisting of a hot meal at lunchtime and also break time snacks. Breakfast and tea is also provided. I aim to provide all children with a healthy eating plan to ensure that every child will receive fresh fruit and vegetables in relation to the government initiative of ‘5 A Day’.

For the baby Parents can supply either breast or bottle milk (as desired). Baby’s bottles are kept in the refrigerator in the kitchen.

I encourage children to choose healthy options and to experiment by trying new foods from other cultures. Older children are encouraged to help in the preparation of food and meals. I encourage healthy practices such as hand washing before and after to ensure the food is edible.

I will encourage children to eat as I will have lunch with the children, demonstrating a good table manner and talking and discussing tastes and textures to promote positive attitudes towards food. Fresh water and milk will be made available at dinner time, snake time and tea time. Also fresh water will be available to all children throughout the day. All children will having their own water bottle to access. I do not permit children to have fizzy drinks. Children are offered water or milk.

I do not encourage children to eat sweets on a regular basis, however I do sometimes offer sweets for special occasions. Please let me know what, if any sweets you permit your child to eat.
